CLASSIC BMW MOTORRÄDER MAGAZINE LAUNCHES

If you own a BMW motorcycle that is at least 25 years old, or are interested in finding out more about these iconic German machines dating back to 1923, then why not join the largest vintage BMW motorcycle club in the world, especially now that it has just launched a new, quarterly magazine for members.
The Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners club (VBMWMO) will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2012, making it one of the oldest BMW Motorcycle Clubs in existence. Club membership is drawn from around the world and since it was founded in 1972, more than 8,000 members from 21 countries have signed up, many of whom are still active in the club. Current membership is around 1,100 riders, and growing…
The new, full-colour, 40-page quarterly magazine is called the Classic BMW Motorräder and is devoted to information about these motorcycles, as well as technical and historical features, sidecars, competition, factory technical reprints, listings of parts sources, and the world's most unique motorcycle classifieds.
It promises to infuse its members’ passions with all things BMW, pre-war, post-war and classics, while encompassing all BMW motorcycles 25 years and older. The Classic BMW Motorräder will contain new and exciting informative articles by authors from all over the world. Furthermore, an electronic version of the magazine will also be available online to members the day that the paper magazine is mailed out.
This latest issue features a cover story on new American member Bill Costello, whose restoration of his late father's 1958 R 50 has made him famous all over the world via YouTube; BMW Group Classic's Fred Jakobs writes from Germany about the iconic BMW M2 B15 boxer motor; and Canadian Alison Green shares her passion for a 1975 R 60/6 that she has owned for 36 years and 240,000 miles. Add to that various editorial columns, technical articles, profiles on new members and an impressive Classifieds section, and there will be enough to keep any enthusiast going until the next issue is ready.
Jeffery Yost, President and Founder of the newly reorganised VBMWMO is excited about the club’s latest offering and believes that this new quarterly magazine provides significantly improved value to its growing membership base: “The Classic BMW Motorräder replaces The Vintage BMW Bulletin, which faithfully served our readers since 1972. It is time for a fresh new change in order to continue to meet our existing subscribers’ and younger potential members’ needs. We’re planning additional exciting improvements to bring further value and my goal is to double our membership. People can subscribe online and if the club continues to grow as anticipated, then we’ll certainly have to increase the size of the new magazine, since more material will be available to publish.”
Membership of the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners club costs $30 to those in the USA, $40 to those in Canada or Mexico, and international membership is $50, due to increased mailing costs. As a special incentive until 30 June, those who purchase or renew a 3-year membership will also receive a Special Edition magazine from BMW Group Classic, covering the 30 years history of the BMW GS models.
This special issue was specifically produced to mark the 30th anniversary of the first R80 G/S, and all of the GS models that have come since then. Printed in full colour on quality, coated paper, this 62-page collectors’ item is produced entirely in English (except for the 1980 German language advertisement on the inside cover) and is packed full of stories covering the design and development of the GS series bikes, their history and racing achievements.
Membership to the VBMWMO can also be ‘gifted’ and is a great present for the vintage Beemer enthusiast interested in the preservation, enjoyment and use of classic (1970-onwards), vintage (1948-1969) and antique (1923-1945) BMW motorcycles.
