The BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team will see Ayrton Badovini on the second row of the grid in the United States Grand Prix.
Ayrton rode in the final round of Superpole qualifying today for the first time this season and finished with the eighth fastest time. The result is excellent for Ayrton and for team morale ahead of tomorrow's race.
Ayrton Badovini said: "I'm obviously pleased, although I'm never satisfied. It is important that we have found something that works in the wet and dry and this shows the great strides made with bike. Tomorrow the weather will be an important factor, but given our current technical position we are confident. "
At the second event since his accident, James Toseland has found a few problems, especially in right-handers. The Englishman set the eighteenth fastest time in qualifying yesterday, with rain today bringing no chance of improvement, thus preventing him from making Superpole.
Serafino Foti, sporting director of BMW Motorrad Superbike Team Italy said: "This is the best qualifying for us since the start of the season. Ayrton was good because he managed to stay focused, even when the track conditions were very tricky. The rest was down to the team, which is working hard, and this small achievement is definitely good for morale. I believe that whatever the weather Ayrton could have a good race. I'm really sorry for James. His wrist is still in poor condition and after six and seven laps the swelling began to hurt. It is not a good time for him but we are close to complete recovery and we will do everything we can to get the results he is capable of."
